As part of the 4th quarter seminars students are studying the Holocaust. Last week, we had the privilege of having Jeffrey Gingold, author of “Tunnel, Smuggle, Collect: A Holocaust Boy”, sharing with us the story of a seven year old boy, Sam, Gingold’s father squeeze through the tunnels and trade goods in a Warsaw Ghetto to survive.
Lumen students participated in the Poetry Out Loud competition. Students recited a poem from a list that was given by the competition. Our four finalists from the Lumen classroom competition were Piper James, Cade Jahns, Jasmine Hoppe and Matt Standke. They will be competing at RHS/Lumen High School here on January 23, 2018. Two finalists from Lumen will to go the regional competition in Wrightstown on February 6, 2018.
Students have the opportunity to advance to the national level and receive scholarships. Here is a link to more information about the competition.
In the Spring a group of Lumen students teamed up with Cathylee Arbaugh from Five Twelve Interiors to design an inviting breakout space and hallway for Lumen. She graciously gave of her time and talents working with the students and the school district to give us a space that is modern and unique. In September the renovations began. A group of students from Ms. Young’s Lumen art class took on the challenging task of painting the hallway and breakout space to give it a fresh new look. Here are some pictures of the work in progress to the final product.
