Team Building Day

Throughout 3rd quarter students in Mrs. Griffith’s seminar Civil Society Starts at Home were planning our team building day.  Students planned and lead the activities.  Students took part in small groups to get to know each other better.  Presentations were given by students on dimensions of diversity. Discussions focused on how are we are different, and how can we better understand one another.   Several team building activities required students to work together and have fun.

Here are some pictures…

Community Service Event with ConAgra Foods

On Friday March 13, 2015, Lumen students teamed up with ConAgra Foods and the Kids Against Hunger Organization to pack 20,000 meals that were distributed to local food pantries.  A number of students took on leadership roles throughout the morning; training, problem solving, and overseeing their assigned area.  Students learned how to work together as a team in order to make things run smoothly and efficiently.  It was a great opportunity to give back to the community.  Students had fun and enjoyed working with ConAgra Foods employees to support a great cause.

Pizza and Sub Fundraiser

We are trying something new this Spring.  Students have asked to try a different fundraiser, so we are selling Pick N Save deli pizzas and subs. The coupons are $5 and good for either a 12″ 1-2 topping thin crust deli pizza or a 12″ deli sub of your choice. Last week students were given information.  The money raised will be used to support student projects, and helps to cover the costs associated with field trips, seminar speakers, and classroom activities. Please support our fundraiser – it directly impacts our students and helps to provide them with more opportunities!

Project Showcase Night

Monday night’s Project Showcase was a success with 90 parents and community members engaging in conversation with students about what they have been learning throughout the school year.  There were 6 formal large group presentations,  3 presentations made throughout the evening by students from the Civil Society Starts at Home seminar on Autism – Sensory Overload, and many individual presentations given on seminars, classes, and genius hour projects.  All the students did a wonderful job!
