Lumen Science Update

Last week students in Biology measured the amount of energy found in different kinds of snacks. Each group had to test 3-4 different kinds. Some of the snacks tested were, Doritos, Lay’s BBQ chips, Cheez-Its, Ritz, Chow Mein noodles, Chex Mix, Cheetos, Fritos, Tostitos tortilla chips, animal crackers and popcorn.  They determined the amount of energy by burning a portion of it and capturing the heat released into a known amount of water.  Not all foods contain the same amount of energy, so it was fun to see what happened.
